Yes, 100% dedicated gluten-free restaurants and bakeries are a real thing. Whether you have celiac disease, a gluten sensitivity, or avoid gluten for other health reasons, these spots prepare everything in a gluten-free facility, which means no cross-contamination and no anxiety about what's safe to order.
As anyone who avoids gluten knows, the usual dining experience involves scanning menus for the handful of things you can eat, asking detailed questions about kitchen prep, and hoping for the best. At a dedicated gluten-free restaurant, you can pick anything off the menu. That freedom can feel almost overwhelming after years of limited options.
I've compiled this list of dedicated gluten-free restaurants and bakeries across the greater Sacramento and Northern California region. Every place listed here is either fully gluten-free or operates a dedicated gluten-free kitchen. This is not a list of restaurants that happen to have a few gluten-free menu items.
If you know of a dedicated gluten-free spot that isn't listed here, please reach out so I can add it.

Why "Dedicated" Matters
There's a meaningful difference between a restaurant that offers gluten-free menu items and one that operates a dedicated gluten-free kitchen. In a shared kitchen, even well-intentioned staff can introduce cross-contamination through shared fryers, cutting boards, prep surfaces, or airborne flour. For people with celiac disease, even trace amounts of gluten can cause a reaction.
A dedicated gluten-free facility removes that risk entirely. Everything in the kitchen is gluten-free, so there's no chance of cross-contact. That's why this guide only lists places that are fully dedicated. Restaurants with gluten-free options on an otherwise standard menu are not included.
Help Me Keep This Guide Updated
The gluten-free restaurant scene changes frequently. New spots open, others close or change ownership, and farmers market schedules shift. If you know of a dedicated gluten-free restaurant or bakery in the greater Sacramento or Northern California area that isn't listed here, please let me know and I'll add it. If anything listed above has changed, I want to know that too.
